October/November 2011 Happy Autumn My Fellow ALQHYA's, Just got back from Congress and would like to give you an update. The NYATT TEAM this year consisted of Brooke Hazel and Kathryn Tucker, both received a new jacket and NYATT 2011 buckle at the NYATT ceremony. Brooke competed in Showmanship and Horsemanship. Kathryn competed in Western Pleasure and Horsemanship. Thanks girls for your time, effort and making Alabama look good! We are aware there were a few Youths that wanted to compete on Alabama's team but could not due to circumstances and we hope that we can have a full group next year. The Ceremonial night consisted of some entertainment, 2011 Congress Queen was elected, goodies were thrown to the audience, a trailer was given away as well as a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Shucks, wish I knew Ohio Youth were selling tickets to give away a Harley! I would have given free rides...... Now for the best part about Congress....Brooke Hazel made the semi-finals in the Youth 15-18 Hunt seat not only was Brooke, Her Mom - Kim, and trainer Blake proud...but Alabama Quarter horse was extremely proud too !! Congratulations again Brooke, you worked hard, always maintain a good attitude and have God's blessings! Now for some reminders - .If you would like to be apart of or are thinking about going to the Y.E.S conference in June, Youth World in August and Congress NYATT in October. You need to send a letter of intent to your Youth Advisor between the first of January and the end of March. The letter of intent should consist of what you would like to be apart of in the coming year. You will not be held to it, it will just make your advisor is aware of your agenda for the coming year. That way we can be sure to contact you and make you aware of the deadlines. Our main fund raiser this year is to give away a Harris work saddle! Be sure to get your tickets to sell. This is very important! Selling the tickets will insure that you can be apart of the activities and the money we make can go toward paying some expenses for the participating youth. Contact: Kim Hazel or Alabama Quarter Horse President Jock Hernig by email or phone. Mr. Hernig's e-mail is talk2jack@aol.com; 205-936-8675 or Home Number 205-678-8589 and Mrs. Hazel's is 256.310.2966 or email @ oxfordfenceco@aol.com If you didn't make the All Novice Show October 29 & 30th in Autaugaville, we missed you... It was a blast! We had many new Novices come join us. Miss Darcy had a brilliant idea for a Youth fund raiser, "Kiss the Pig Contest" and it was a lot of fun for everyone...well maybe not for the winner...but Miss Sachea was a good sport and yes.... she KISSED the PIG! There also was a costume contest. I must say, there was a lot of thought put into the costumes and it was hard to pick a winner or should I say winners? The judges were split. Sooo the winners got 2 prizes and everyone else got a prize too! Thank you to EVERYONE who helped out with the All Novice Show. Everyone appreciates all you volunteers very much! We thank you for your time, money spent and talents! There just would not be a show without you! Our last show of the year is November 26,27 and 28 Thanksgiving Weekend with fun stuff on the 26th and the show beginning on the 27th. Check the Web for the latest show bill...... It will be held in Rainsville, Alabama at our newest Agriculture facility. Improvements are constantly being made at each show. Please plan to come to enjoy showing your horse for those final points of the year! We have made some adjustments to this years show bill and believe it will be more suitable for everyone. Again check the Show Bill on ALQHA web site. God Bless you! Take care till we meet again, Lena Hernig ALQHYA President
