Recreational Riding

Join the Alabama Quarter Horse Association (ALQHA) and qualify for a year end award by logging the most hours riding on a Registered American Quarter Horse or an All Breed horse.  Any organized ride qualifies with proof of registration and participation in all ALQHA Trail Rides.

We must have a copy of you hours in hand by December 15, 2011.

AQHA members who are also enrolled in AQHA's Horseback Riding Program will continue to earn double hours on all AQHA-approved trail rides.

You can earn hours showing, on the track, out on the ranch or on the trail with your American Quarter Horse or any other breed! The Horseback Riding Program is your opportunity to earn rewards simply by logging all the hours you spend riding!

To become a member of the Horseback Riding Program you must to be a current AQHA member. As long as your membership stays current, you will be a member of the Horseback Riding Program until you reach the final milestone of 5,000 hours for the American Quarter Horse Program or the All-Breeds final milestone of 2,000 hours, at which time you may enroll again.

The Horseback Riding Program is designed to reward AQHA and AQHYA members who spend time riding American Quarter Horses and other breeds. So, start logging your hours toward great awards! Visit Drysdales to view all they have to offer for the horse enthusiast.

The AQHA Horseback Riding Program is simple:

  • AQHA, AQHYA and Amateur members enroll in either the American Quarter Horse or the All Breeds division of the Horseback Riding Program (you may enroll in both divisions)
  • Pay a small, one-time enrollment fee - good for as long as you keep your AQHA membership current!
     
  • Remember to keep your AQHA Membership current! If your membership expires, you'll have to re-enroll in the program.
     
  • Log the hours spent in the saddle
  • Return the log sheets to AQHA or enter your hours online before December 31
  • Earn great prizes.

Qualifications and Rules:

American Quarter Horse division

Once you enroll in this program, sponsored by Drysdales Western Store, you simply log the hours you spend riding your American Quarter Horse. As you move up through 15 thresholds - from 25 to 5,000 hours - you earn attractive awards and the opportunity to purchase jackets reserved exclusively for higher hour award recipients. The awards series culminates at 5,000 hours with a Montana Silversmiths silver buckle customized for the Horseback Riding Program.

  • Must maintain AQHA, AQHYA or Amateur membership.
  • One-time $35 enrollment fee.
  • Log hours riding or pleasure driving American Quarter Horses on official log sheets.
  • May ride more than one American Quarter Horse; rider does not have to own the horse.
  • The horse(s) must be registered with AQHA. The registered name and registration number of the horse must be listed on the log sheet.
  • Separate log sheets must be used for each horse, and a minimum of one log sheet must be submitted annually to maintain enrollment in the program.
  • Please remember that the deadline to turn in your hourly log sheets is December 31 of the current year.

All Breeds division

This program recognizes and rewards AQHA or AQHYA members for time spent with any breed of horse. Sponsored by Drysdales Western Store, you simply log the hours on official log sheets to earn a patch and rocker bars. The awards series culminates at 2,000 hours with a certificate of completion.

  • Must maintain AQHA, AQHYA or Amateur membership.
  • One-time $35 enrollment fee.
  • Log hours riding or pleasure driving on official log sheets - one sheet per horse.
  • A minimum of one log sheet must be submitted annually to maintain enrollment in the program.
  • Deadline to turn in your hourly log sheets is December 31 of the current year.

Hourly Log Sheets

Print out an Hourly Log Sheet and log the hours you spend in the saddle, then submit those hours online or mail in the Hourly Log Sheet by December 31 each year.

The log sheets are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, download it for free from the Adobe Web site at adobe.com. To submit or view your hours online, use the AQHA or AQHYA membership ID number you entered on the Horseback Riding Program enrollment form and your personal identification number.
